Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic Centre

Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic CentreThe Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic Centre is a new community centre and curling rink being built at Hillcrest Park in Vancouver, British Columbia. Construction started in March 2007, it has already been host to the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships but parts of the building are still under construction. During the Olympics it will have a capacity of 6,000 people and be host to Curling and for the Paralympics, host to Wheelchair Curling.

 

The venue is located in a lively Vancouver community that includes the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park and views of the local mountains. Aboriginal art will be installed at the venue as part of the Vancouver 2010 Venues Aboriginal Arts Program. The program will feature traditional and contemporary artwork by First Nations, Inuit and Metis artists from across Canada.

Post-Games Use

After the 2010 Winter Games, the 108,000-square-foot curling venue will become a multi-purpose community recreation centre that will include an ice hockey rink, gymnasium, library and six to eight sheets of curling ice. Attached to, and being constructed with the new curling venue and community centre, is a new aquatic centre with a 50-metre pool and leisure pool. Post-Games, the venue will be managed by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation.
